Lately, I've been having a lot of trouble falling asleep, sometimes tossing and turning for 2-3 hours until I finally blank out. Is there any advice or methods to help me fall asleep faster? It might be from stress, but I don't think it is. I'm also not affected by any type of caffiene so it can't be from that either. Please don't recommend any sort of pill or drug. Also, counting never seems to work for me so if there are any other ways, please help! If you could also post possible reasons why I'm having trouble, that would be helpful.

There are a few things that I do when I have trouble sleeping which might help you, too.

One thing is to give yourself a mini foot massage before bed. I've heard that this stimulates pressure points which help to relax you. You can use lotion or not, your choice. I use a scented lotion, which provides more of a calming effect.

Another suggestion would be to make sure you're eating and drinking enough. If your body is stressed (not necessarily mental stress) due to dehydration or a lack of food, this might affect your ability to fall asleep quickly.

Also, I agree with the comment that you should stick to a routine. If your body is used to going to sleep at a certain hour, you'll be more likely to be ready to sleep at that time.

Are you taking any meds. right now? If so, think of the possible side effects it may have. I have trouble sleeping also. Its possible that you are thinking a lot about something and can't seem to get it out of your mind. Even if you feel like there is nothing bothering you it could be something that you havent figured it out yet. Try to clear your mind of all thoughts. Relax and close your eyes in a dark room. Concentrate on your breathing.

Another option can be a glass of warm or cold milk before you go to bed.

If that doesn't work try exercising earlier in the day to get a lot of energy out, so that you feel tired when you lay down.

Or you can try all of these things. They all seem to help me. Good luck

When your body goes to sleep you produce a hormone know as "melatonin." Melatonin is available as a vitamin from GNC or any major vitamin supplier, it is not a drug, it's an herb and can assist you in falling asleep. Go to your local GNC and ask for "melatonin." Here as brief explanation of it: The American Heritage Science Dictionary - melatonin (měl'ə-tō'nĭn).
A hormone produced in the pineal gland that plays a role in regulating biological rhythms, including sleep and reproductive cycles. In many animals, melatonin also regulates the physiological effects that occur in response to seasonal changes, such as the growth of a winter coat of fur. Chemical formula: C13H16N2O2.

I had a list of foods that promote sleeping before having to format my hard drive. An onset of depression is often a cause of sleeplessness at night and having problems with staying awake during the day.

Do not drink any caffinated drink after 4:00 pm listen to some music while in bed. Keep your clock away from your bed meaning not right beside you on a table, drink milk.

keep the same routine before going to bed. Same thing. Maybe read for 15 minutes. Keep your bed for sleeping, reading, and sex only. Nothing else. This will program your mind to be used to that being in bed usually ;) means sleep. You can drink tea before also.
Go to bed about the same time every night also.

You say its not caffeine but it sounds like that to me. It wouldn't hurt to try going without for a few days. Are you taking naps in the day, you may not be tired. If you take vitamins make sure you don't take them too close to bed especially vitamin C.
