Sorry, let me better explain-the column is loose and moves about 1-2 inches in either direction.

Remove the horn button rubber with a flathead screwdriver, and you should see the steering wheel nut that fastens the wheel to the steering column. Tighten to 70 ft. lbs. and reassemble.

You fix whatever caused it be become loose in the first place, which could be anyone of a number of things. In the worse case scenario you replace the entire column with a new one.

It is rare that the steering wheel is loose! It is on a splined shaft. Most steering looseness is in the lower steering links.
