I love the movie Chicago and was considering dressing up as a flapper girl for a costume party we got to every year. Does anyone know how to recreate that classic 20's wavy bob?

Yes, they are called finger waves. Thanks for the name.

As for the stupid answer- get a freaking life.

they are NOT called pin curls, they're called finger waves! they're almost impossible to do on yourself - trust me. you're better off going to your local salon and asking for them.

it involves a lot of gel, patience, and skill.

if there's a cosmetology school in your area, you might want to call them! the school around here charges $8 for a style!

If you have long hair and don't want to chop it off, use a 1 or 2" curling iron to give hair nice smooth waves (keep the barrel closed to prevent creases) then pin the ends up to make it look like a bob. If you have curly or wavy hair, straighten your hair before doing this.

If you do have short hair, just repeat the above steps minus the pinning up!

Good luck! Look at pictures of Renee Zellweger in Chicago or Kirsten Dunst in Cat's Meow for inspiration. Also be sure to invest in a FABULOUS black, white, or silver dress!

they are called pin curls
Wash hair and allow to dry to about 90 percent.

Decide on where you want the majority of curl. For a really curly look, you can create curls all over the head, or choose sections that frame the face.

Choose small sections of hair that can easily be wound around the finger.

Secure curl by criss-crossing two bobby pins across each curl.

If hair dries before you have completed all the pin curls, mist with water as required.

When curls are completely dry, gently remove the pins and either loosen the curl with the fingers or for a look straight out of the forties, use a comb which will result in a froth of waves.
