I want an LP turntable stereo shelf system...People tell me the ones?

Question

available like JWIN , Memorex, GPX all have a lot of probelms, thus that's why they're cheap. I need a diamond stylus too, not a cheap crappo thing. Also CD player, dual cassette, am fm radio.

ANY ideas, short of components again, which I used to have?

And if components are the way to go, what do you suggerst"

I really want very reliable and good quality, with great sound and not too soft, like those 20- 30 watt units.

You're not going to find a good shelf system that has a turntable. The market for one is too small. There may be one in the future in England if the record revival keeps growing, but for now there isn't as far as I know of.

The problem with the turntable market is they are mainly sold to 3 groups of people since CDs now dominate the market.
1. Audiophiles
2. DJs
3. Penny pinchers.

The penny pinchers are why you are seeing so many low quality poorly built turntables in the department stores. These are mainly people who don't want to change over to CDs because they already have too much money invested in their record collection.

The audiophiles are attracted to high prices like moths to a light.

So that leaves the DJ market. They need high quality equipment, but still need to make a profit. So this market is the best place to look, plus there's an added advantage to the turntable we're looking for being in this market. The two main types of turntables are belt drive & direct drive. Belt drive turntables tend to have less plater noise, so most audiophiles prefer belt drive turntables. Direct drive turntables have more torque, so DJs prefer direct drive turntables. So if two DI turntables are exactly the same except one is belt drive & one is direct drive, the belt drive turntable will be cheaper.

Now looking around at that site you might be wondering why I chose that turntable, since Technics has a belt drive turntable that's only $150 & you've never even Numark. Two problems with that Technics belt drive turn table.
1. And most important, is it uses a P-mount cartridge. Which doesn't sound as good as a good standard mount cartridge & you can't upgrade to a better sounding cartridge if you are not happy with the sound quality.
2. "Plugs into your receiver's phono inputs." Most new receivers don't have phono inputs & you're probably not going to find a good shelf system has phono inputs. So you're going to need to spend $20 to $50 on a phono preamp so you can plug it into your book shelf system.

Numark is one of the top end brands in DJ turntables & the Numark TTUSB has RCA line outputs, so you can hook it up to a receiver or shelf stereo with out using a phono preamp.

Now all you to do is find a good shelf system that has an extra line input on the back. (Probably marked "AUX", Line 1", or "Line 2", but any line input will work.) Which should be pretty easy now since you're not looking for one that has a turntable.
