Andrew Carnegie was the father of the modern steel industry (and has many descendants through the old-money Phipps family) and was incredibly wealthy. He started out poor and was a self-made millionaire. He meant by this quote that if you want to be a success in business, you have to be willing to let other people take on responsibilities within your business and give them credit (and reward them) for what they do. You can't do it all yourself, although many control-freak types are reluctant to let go and try to micromanage everything. Carnegie understood that the best way to conduct a business was to find people who can do things that you cannot, or can do them better than you can, hire those people, and let them do the job without hovering over them trying to micromanage them. And when they succeed, give them credit for the success, because this assures that they will want to continue.

it means that no person who wants to do big or great things can do it without other peoples help, or if he wants to take all the credit. This kind of attitude is arrogant, self-serving and ultimately unproductive. the person wouldn't have enough human resources to do anything great because no-one wants to work with a person like that.
