is it just when u hold the camera above your head?

I'd have to guess and say it's a picture where the length runs vertically (as if you're holding the camera sideways) instead of horizontally (as if you're holding the camera normally, with the button for taking photos pointing straight up).

Perhaps it is easier to understand it this way: a vertical line goes up and down, so a vertical photo is tall.

A horizontal photo is like a horizontal line that goes from left to right, or a photo that shows more of the left side and right side of the image than what is above and below.

VERTICAL PICTURE MEANS IS TALLER THAN WIDE :
8X10, 8" WIDE X 10" TALL.
THE OTHER ONE IS PANORAMIC: WIDER THAN TALLER;
10X8, 10" WIDE X 8" TALL.
