IF YES, SO DOES JESUS

Luke 12

[Jesus says:]

49"I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! 51Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

Religion doesn't cause division. A lack of belief in the gospels does. A lack of belief divides the saved from the unsaved, the believer from the non-believer, those who have a hope in eternal life from those who have no hope of eternal life. Often times this is also the cause or a cause of division within families as well.

Religion in general brings people together because it teaches good morality (usually) community of believers, and fear for God. all good things. It is THE GOSPEL that divides people, not religion. Jesus is in essence saying that he is going to be one of those people that either people hate or love. That is why when you hear someone say "oh he was just a good teacher" that you know they havent thought the matter through nor studied hard enough.

No. I think it makes obvious the divisions already there, and in doing so causes people to face and resolve those divisions in the name of the 1 and only God.

I think religion is a result of incomplete mystical experience. A complete mystical experience introduces one to the Great Unity of All Things. Once that experience has happened, it becomes clear that there is not one path to the Godhead, but many and all have some validity.

I don't think religion causes division. I think its organized religion and the intolerance of people. We are all different and we have different beliefs. You don't have to spread the word, everyone knows. We all know about Jesus, God, Mohamed, Jahovah, Buddah, the Lord and Lady, etc. People need to be tolerant of all faiths and let others have their own beliefs.

The root cause of all division is the false assumption of the 'I' and 'you'.

This false assumption, by its very nature, leads to the divisions in the world.
