Define superpower -- An extremely powerful nation, esp. one capable of influencing international events and the acts and policies of less powerful nations.
India has the fourth largest economy in the world. It has a young population that is eager to work in new high-tech fields. Their economy is the fastest growing in the world after China's, and they maintain the worlds third largest military (2nd largest army, 4th largest air force, 5th largest navy with "blue water" capabilities). They also have a strong space program and in one of only a handful of nations that has nuclear capabilities.
India may not be considered a superpower yet, but like China, its coming close. After the fall of the Soviet Union and the dismantlement of the British Empire the United States was left the only superpower. The United States has military capabilities surpassing another country; they have a democratic system in place and are in no danger of collapsing. India is emerging as a world superpower in Asia; they maintain a large military force, they have a democratic political and legal system (unlike the communist Chinese government) and they influence many aspects of life in Asia. India is emerging as a world superpower. They may not rival The United States anytime soon, but the Unites States has had time to prosper for more that a hundred years without any wars on its own soil.
If India and China continue to grow at their current rate they may become world superpowers within the next five to ten years.

India is a nuclear nation. Becoming a super power in the military sense is not the aim of most nations today. China understands they cannot defeat the US and it's allies militarily. Trying to do so will destroy the earth. Too many nukes will be used which could crack the mantle of the planet. They understand that and have become a Super Power economically. Most likely the largest manufacturer of merchandise today. Look at the items you purchase today. You will find a very large percentage comes from China and another large portion comes from India/Indochina. How do they do it, Cheap labor. No medical insurance. No retirement funds. We, the USA, are a super power in shell only. We no longer have the manufacturing needed to maintain a Super Power. Too many nations make our military hardware. Our nations people have become fat-cats, complacent and fragmented.

India can be an economic superpower by relieving its poverty of 25% and reducing its unemployment in half to 3.5%. India has a poor infrastructure and some of the jobs could be used to build up that infrastructure. India needs to sell things abroad to come up with that money. I'm thinking solar cells and equipment that uses solar cells. It would be cheaper for some countries to have solar cells providing the electricity rather than stringing cable from a power plant that's miles away.
To become a military superpower, it needs to make it's own equipment rather than buying it from outside sources. This includes jets, ground vehicals and ships. It also needs to be able to project that power overseas. A good start would be to send troops to send a couple hundred thousand troops to Afganistan and have the economic and equipment support to take care of them.

it's about the intergrity in thought about the cause and effects of action. it's about calculating the gains in present and future. it's stuff to battle-out. it's currage to stand stuborn. this is the super power nature.
achieveing the goals are the success story of the above.
science and technology and infrastructure and space to workout are allied ingredients.
so, india is in the right track to achieveing the SUPREME POWER which every existing super-powers couldn't afford to dream of even.
