Beige, Cream or Off White
Light colors make a room look bigger. It can also contrast any darker furniture you put against that wall.
Being a living room, you would want warmer colors, so not stark gloss white.
Unless you are matching the carpet, colors blues or reds may limit what furniture you can move into the room. If you do want to use a color, pastel green is more soothing for the eyes.
But as I said at the top, Beige, Cream or Off White are neutral colors that will compliment most other things in your living room, make the room seem bigger. and still give a feeling of warmth.

I think that you need to give more information, you'll get more answers, and because in my opinion, you should just leave the brick without painting, i like that look. But you could try painting it white, red, or even a light brown.

IF THE BRICK WALL IS IN GOOD SHAPE I WOULD LEAVE IT ALONE. BRICK WALLS CAN BE BEAUTIFUL. A LOT OF PEOPLE AND BUILD THEM ON THE INSIDE FOR A NATURAL RUSTIC TOUCH. IF YOU JUST HAVE TO PAINT THE BRICK IT SHOULD GO WITH YOUR COLOR SCHEME IN THE REST OF THE ROOM. GO TO A PAINT STORE. THEY HAVE PAINT COLORS GROUPED TOGETHER TO SHOW YOU WHAT LOOKS GOOD.

Unless the brick is so dreadful you vomit upon entering the room, you would be insane to paint an exposed real brick wall! If its that cheap imitation brick paneling, RIP it down and start over....

i would leave it plain. i think a plain brick is great. you make the focal point of the room. You see this every where, and it loks so good. What you could is go with, make it a old fashion new york room. you have black and white pictures of buildings. What colors are the room, i would go with blue, yea little crazy but it will acent the walls, if you go with a black and white theme. what every u do, dont pain the walls black. Thin light, for ideas watch hgtv, or diy.

Dont paint brick. later it'll peel. instead sand it to bring its color out. You could put new brick or stone sideing up over it.
