As a person ages, the body changes significantly, in all areas. In regards to the sense of taste and smell- Olfactory receptors, those involved with smell, decline in aging which reduce our ability to smell as well. Taste buds, involved in the sense of taste, also decrease in number with aging, altering the ability to taste and enjoy food.

As for colds, they alter the senses ability to sense properly because of pressure and fluid in the in the nasal/sinus cavities. and
