When you introduce new chickens to an established flock, there naturally is a lot of fighting. But I've heard there are ways to introduce them without all that pecking and squabbling. Any 4H members out there?

And, please, no more smart-alecky nonsense just for the points.

Put your new chickens in a cage and sit that cage into the coop with the other chickens for 48 hours, before introducing them together.

Feed and water them as normal, in and out of the cage.

When you let them out, put your rooster into a dog kennel and then let the new hens out with the other hens, first.

If you are trying to introduce another rooster, I don't recommend 2 roosters together. That's a recipe for fighting.

Once the hens all get along, you can let the kennelled rooster out and he will make himself at home and will introduce himself to the hens.

Good luck!

chickens just naturally pick on each other especially white ones, if one has a spot theyll peck it to death, we usually let them go in different parts of the yard and they mingle at will, i wouldnt suggest this with gamecocks , they are just bred to fight even the hens. unfortunately ive been around chickens all my life and i dont care for them its always the men in my life, but i do observe a lot after 40 years.

Can you speak Chicken? Good, try this phrase " Henrietta and friends, may I introduce you to Wilimenia? She's new here and I'm sure you will give her a warm welcome." Do this for each newcomer.
