I have been thinking about getting a tattoo in memory of my brother who died 3 years ago. I am going to get a shamrock and maybe a J or something for him. My family isn't very receptive to tattoos so i want to put it somewhere they probably won't notice like my ankle. I don't want it on my back because then i would never see it. Any suggestions?

Some of this depends on whether you're a guy or girl. Sorry, but I don't know. Either way, they might notice it on your ankle. That's hard to hide. Depending on where you live (Arizona), it's hard to cover stuff up because we wear shorts pretty much year round.
The shamrock sounds like a good one. So if you're a guy, i'd probably go with the calf part of your leg. Girl, then maybe shoulder or higher up on the hip.

Ribs, thigh, hip/bikini line, top of your foot?

Ankle is very noticable. If you sit down and your pants rise up, you see it. If you wear shorts, skirts, its there. Even putting on shoes, I'll pull my pant leg up and you can see it. Its a lot harder to hide than you think. Personally, I feel that because the tattoo is for your brother, you family will be more respectful of that than other things. I don't think its as big of a deal and it seems, but good luck.

On the foot. I live in Arizona (HI I_SPY!!) and my sandals cover it up. It only shows when I want it to show. Even with pants on and no shoes, my pants seem to cover it. I have mine right above the last 3 toes about an inch back. Its perfect. I even forget its there. Word of caution...if you do get a foot tattoo, let it heal before you start wearing shoes that cover it. It does swell and it does hurt when it is healing. The tatt itself wasnt so bad. It was my 4th and final tatt.

I like the "close to your heart comment." I would also suggest the inside of your wrist. I have one there and when I want it visible, it is, and when I want it covered...it's easy to do.

You should shave your head and get a big one on the back of your skull. Chicks dig that. And if you change your mind you can always grow your hair back. Genius Huh!?

If you are over 18, get it wherever you heart desires. If you are not 18, wait.
