To answer your question, you're comparing apples and oranges. The Bible is a book that an entire belief system is based on. Harry Potter is a fictional story. If you want to teach your children about the Bible, I would suggest taking them to Sunday school and finding children's Bibles and the like. Save Harry Potter for bedtime stories, things of that sort.
In response to a few of the replies you've gotten.....(And this is just my personal opinion) There is nothing pagan or evil about Harry Potter. If you would pull your heads out of the dark places you've lodged them and bother opening your minds, you may find that you'll enjoy the books once you give them a chance. And to say that the Bible is pure fact, is inaccurate. True, there are historical accounts found in the Bible, but as the stories contained therein were passed down from generation to generation by MAN, they're inherently flawed. The Bible is a book written by man....it did not arrive here by fax from God. Believe what you will, but be realistic, people!

My husband and I are agnostics but we don't teach our kids to be like us. It's our own personal choice, we allow them to develop their own when it comes to religion and faith. They go to schools with Christian Living as one of the subjects, their teachers are Christian. They also love Harry Potter. I make it a point to play up the values the story contains like unconditional love, friendship, tolerance, respect, sacrifice and generally being good. I believe that it really doesn't matter if God or the church is being glossed over in the books as some of the fundamentalists claim. What matters is the series has morals and positive values the kids can learn. The fact that it is about witches and wizards does not make it different from Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, The Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland. The Harry Potter series teach more values and Christian insights than all these classics put together. I believe the current ban on Harry Potter would eventually be lifted once the hoopla and the hype surrounding it would have died down. And all the readers (young and old alike) do not turn into devil worshipping, witchcraft fanatics. Your daughter could still share Harry Potter with her friend even if the latter is not allowed to read the books or watch the movies. You didn't say if telling her friend about the books would make her parents angry. I hope it doesn't because that would indeed be sad.

Harry Potter condones witchcraft including spells, incantations, speaking to the dead, and countless other issues the Bible teaches against. The Bible shows different people and what they did both bad and good all they while showing why certain actions were bad while others were good. The Bible shows us how we should live and provides the reason behind the how. Harry Potter makes lite of witchcraft and satanism (don't believe me watch it again and look for the satanic symbols) which then intices kids to experiment with witchcraft.

I don't know how to answer your question because of the second part. I'm Christian, and the answer to the first part of your question is:
Harry Potter. Is there something bad in Harry Potter? I watched the second one, it was ok, i quess - if you're a kid. (I don't think its written on a very adult level, thats all)
Anyway - you want to know what in the Bible isn't bad? Am I missing something here?????

Im a Christian that really doesnt have a problem with Harry Potter, just a knee jerk reaction by the reactionary among us. (Lord of the rings doesnt mention God either and has magic in it, I dont see people protesting that)
The Bible teaches us a lot about children and reaffirms our responsibility for not only taking physical care of them and loving them, but to TEACH them about God. The Bible is the primary tool to do this and it is the job of EVERY parent to do this.

The bible has stories that are not Violent and can be kid friendly...Harry Potter is dark and scary....I don't recommend either for very small children....However, I do recommend some stories taken out of the bible to be told..."TOLD" to children and when a child is old enough to understand the meaning of the bible then and only then should they read the bible...Harry Potter same thing, when a child can handle it then let him read it....Not all Christians are small minded to not allow their children's minds to expand and read fantasy stories or science fiction....Some of us do keep open minds.

The Bible is the true inspired word of God...Harry Potter is a tale about sorcery which we are not to have anything to do with.
