Heart Shaped Meatloaf

I think a heart shaped meatloaf is one of the easiest dishes you can make for your family or your sweetheart. I like to serve a tossed green salad and some sort of potato, rice or pasta side dish to go with it.

2 pounds lean ground beef
1 onion, finely diced
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1 egg
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
Salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in bowl and mix well. Press into a heart shaped pan and bake in a 350 degree oven for 1-1/2 hours or until done. Remove from pan, place on platter and decorate with ketchup, if desired.

Cook's Note: Be creative with heart shaped cutters. Use a small cutter to make carrot and/or cheese hearts for your salad. Toast your own croutons that have been cut into heart shapes. Sprinkle some Valentine confetti on your table. Whatever you choose to do, your family will LOVE it, and you! Have fun! {double the recipe}

Heart shaped pan of course. I'm going to give you the recipe for 2 pounds (serves 2-4), just DOULBLE it. 2 small cans tomatoe sauce, 1/4 cup worchestershire sauce, 1/2 onion chopped, 1 tablespoon dried parsley, 1/4-1/2 cup brown sugar. Mix all together in bowl, set aside. In another bowl add 2 pounds ground beef, 1/2 chopped onion, 1 egg, beaten, 1/2 cup quick oatmeal ( not instant), 1 teaspoon garlic salt, dash of pepper, and 1/3 of the sauce mixture. Mix together well. Place in pan, making space between meat and pan around edges with fingers. Flatten top, Spread more sauce over top and cook 1 hour, at 350F. Drain off grease half way (30 min) and add more sauce. Reserve some sauce for adding when served. Sweet and sour meatloaf is my families favorite. Hope you like it. Don't forget to double it for 4 lbs. The oatmeal disappears, is healthy and you can't taste it. It just holds it together better. Add more if you need it.

I actually am making this too for V-Day. I found these little Heart-Shaped Aluminum Foil Baking Dishes at the DOLLAR STORE of all places! They are actually for Jello, but I did a trial run and they worked GREAT for meatloaf. They come in a 12 pack and are reusable! I am making little strawberry cakes in them too for dessert! I actually made my mom the big hand molded heart shaped meat loaf for Mother's day--- it didn't look that great... and I like the idea of little single portion meatloafs... plus seconds are really easy- just grab another one! Good Luck and God Bless.

Four pounds? I hope this isn't just for two of you.

Handshape it into a heart, no more than 3 inches thick, in a large casserole dish. Use a meat thermometer to make sure it's cooked to at least 160 degrees in the center.

Or, make several individual loaves, each heart shaped, which would be cute and cook faster.

Using your favorite meatloaf recipe, mix all inrgedients, form into heart shape and bake on cookie sheet with rimmed edges. Check to make sure grease does not overflow. Other option would be to use 1 or 2 heart shaped cake pans and unmold to serve. (My choice)

4 pounds is a lot of ground meat - how many people are you feeding? Another option would be to make individual hand formed heart shaped mini-meatloaves. Enjoy!!

OMG YES! my mother made a heart shaped meatloaf one night, there are two ways you can do it;
1.Shape it by hand and place in a large pan with a lip around it so you don't get grease in the bottom of your oven.
2.Buy yourself a heart shaped cake pan at the local store, and put it in that and bake as usually! Good Luck!
