get something that represents more of who you are. also, keep in mind you're not gonna be 21 forever (I know you know this, just imagine yourself at 40 with the same tat, I've often vetoed my own tattoo ideas using this method).
Also, dont worry about what you'll look like when your 70 or 80, odds are you wont care at that point how it looks, and if it reminds you of a good time in your life, you'll never hate no matter what it looks like.

I've been struggling with this for a few years too. I have gone back and forth on a lot of designs.
Is there any symbol that speaks to you?
Any word that means a lot to you?
Are you religious? Anti-religious?
Go to your local tattoo shop and browse the books, it costs nothing and you get some ideas.
Think about where you want it on your body, do you want to see it all the time? Do you want to only be able to see it in the mirror (ie. on your back)
Do you have any friends who have tattoos? Look at theirs, get them to reccomend places where you can browse designs.
when you have more of an idea in mind, talk to a couple of tattoo artists, most will design your tattoo for you if you agree for them to photograph you.
Search: Tattoo designs
That will help too... lots of sites out there.

My dad once got a really cool looking tattoo of a mouse on his back. It was really cool looking but strangly it made me feel so deep on the inside because it showed me my dad was sensitive enough to get a tattoo of a sad little mouse rather than a red heart with the word mom in the middle or something like that.

What exactly screams grungy? You need to choose a style maybe. I like the American Traditional style, some go for Japanese, Realism...etc...etc. Don't get a tat like it's a haircut, because new skin won't cover it, like new hair covers a bad hairstyle. In my situation hair don't cover much :) Do some research.

maybe you should watch the tv show miami ink, or go on their websites to get some ideas, because you don't want anything that you won't like after a month ot two, because a tattoo is something you'll be stuck with for the rest of your life.

Design your own (I did) it's much more unique than having a #31 on your arm/whatever just like everyone else out there. Remember it's going to be there for the rest of your life, so choose or design wisely! Have fun and good luck!

Maybe you zodiac sign or something that has heart to it. I wouldnt put it on your arms or anywhere else that many people could see it though, because it is there forever, and people change just like there desires and wishes. Hope you find one that suits you well...oh adn they dont hurt by the way no matter what people say!!! lol take care!

Pick something that is meaningful to you. Remember that this is something that will be with you for the rest of your life. I have 3. All three of them are related to my children. Meaningful tattoos are the sexiest...(oh, and on a guy, I'm a fan of arm bands...but they are admittedly kind of a "fad" tattoo.)

i dont know if you have been searching for a tattoo or have a preferred spot. if you know the exact spot you want it on that would help with me helping you but i know what i think is hot but not to grungy. where the mans stomach has the indentions for the lower area. put stars on each side of it. its on the lower stomach around the creases for your lower section. its hot and noticable in swimming trunks! im in love with that tattoo.

look at pictures and things that interest you, then go to a shop and look at designs. you don't really want a tattoo that someone else suggested you to get now, do you? think of it on your own, it might take time, but you'll like in better in the end. good luck :)
