Thy Kingdom come: Matthew Henry's Commentary says-Quote:This petition has plainly a reference to the docrine which Christ preached at this time, the Kingdom of heaven is at hand. The kingdom of your Father, who is in heaven, this is at hand, pray that it may come. We should turn the word we hear into prayer, our heart should echo to it: does Christ promise, surely I come quickly? our heart should answer, Even so, come. What God promise we must pray for; for promises are given, not to supersede, but to quicken and encourage prayer.

Thy Kingdom Come - the Lord Jesus came to establish the Father's Kingdom in the hearts of men. The Kingdom of the Father is His Will, His Way, His Word - When the will of God is enthroned in the soul of man and His word and way is established in the "walk" of man, then truly the Kingdom of God has come. That is the first aspect of meaning. The second is the literal Kingdom of God that will be established on this earth in God's time. But the second doesn't have much meaning for the individual unless the first is well established. What God is concentrating on now is establishing His Kingdom in us, everyday. Hope that helps. God Bless.

Jesus wished us to pray that God's Kingdom would come and that God's Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. This means Jesus urged us to pray that God's plan, which was formulated from the very beginning, would soon become a reality here on earth. As recorded in Genesis, God started out walking among Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden; it was always His intention to move Heaven to earth and dwell with those who love Him. When Jesus returns to set up the 1,000 year reign (see Revelation 20:4-6), God's Kingdom will be quite close to being a reality. After Jesus hands the Kingdom over to the Father and He officially moves Heaven to earth and dwells among us (Rev. 21:3), the Kingdom will be completely established.

THY KINGDOM COME : Prayer must be concerned with the kingdom of God on earth now and with it's ultimate fulfillment in the future. 1.) We must pray for the return of Christ and the establishment of God's eternal kingdom in the new heaven and the new earth. 2.) We must pray for the spiritual presence and manifestation of the kingdom of God now. This includes asserting God's power among His people in order to destroy the works of Satan, heal the sick, save the lost, promote righteousness, and pour out the Holy Spirit among His people.

Come again?????

Yes, the Kingdom of God IS at hand, but Jesus asks for it to come on earth "as it is in Heaven"....meaning in all of its perfection.

from the Gospel of Saint Thomas ...

3 Jesus said, "If your leaders say to you, 'Look, the (Father's) kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is within you and it is outside you.

perhaps his Kingdom is coming all the Time.

It is perhaps no different than praying for Gods will. Gods will be done instead of our own. Gods kingdom flourish rather than Satans. Instead of falling into temptation, let there be perseverence.

For some reason when I was growing up I was taught that you had to die a martyr to become a saint. That's the reason they made such a big deal about Mother Theresa becoming a saint. Nowadays they just throw the word around and make it meaningless.
