If I make a 2006 catch-up contribution to my Roth IRA, does that change anything? Do I need to report anything right now to the IRS?

No, that has no tax consequences.

The contribution can be made up until April 17, 2007. A contribution to a Roth is a contribution of after tax dollars, so it wouldn't change anything on your 2006 return, so you wouldn't need to file an amended return.

it does not affect your tax return since the contribution is not tax-deductible. you do not need to report anything to the IRS.

If you're a cash-basis taxpayer, then any cash you spend in 2007 will go on your 2007 income taxes, not 2006.
