The outward sign of Holy Baptism is the pouring of the water on the head of the person to be baptized, and the saying of the words: "N. - I Baptize thee in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen."

Baptism itself...well, if you mean a physical dunking into the water (or for some, a sprinkling) is an outward sign to the world that spiritual "rebirth" has taken place. It's also done in obedience to Jesus and in following of His example of baptism - performed by John (The Baptist).

The outward sign of inward baptism or baptism of the Holy Spirit would be love, joy, peace etc. etc. (the "Fruits of the Spirit"). Evidence that rebirth has taken place can also be noted by obedience. The scriptures say that this is how you will know that you are a believer. Discipleship, following - not conformity or works by the worlds standard, but daily dying to the flesh and its desires, and seeking to follow after Jesus.

Summed up in one word - LOVE
See 1 Corinthians 13

Hope this is what you meant and I hope this helps!

There really isn't an outward sign for baptism. As long as you've been baptized in Jesus name that's all that counts. People say to baptize in the NAME of the Father, Son, and Holyghost.... but the seem to overlook what the name is. It's Jesus.

I am not sure what it is for Baptism, but I know that in the olden times to signify you were a Christian you would draw a 1/2 circle. Then the person (if they were Christian) would draw another 1/2 circle. This became what is commonly called an igthus. It happened during a time where Christians were prosocuted for being believers.

Baptism IS your outward (public) sign that your old self has died and been resurrected to a new life in Christ.

Afterward, your outward sign is your new Christian life, as you walk according to Christ's commandments. Paul refers to this as being "crucified with Christ."
