It depends on the club. Some allow you to submit a simple membership form and pay your dues. Others require that you have a "sponsor" (someone that is already a member of the club) to recommend you. Others are by invitation only, so you need to stay by the phone and watch the mail, just in case they contact you. Your odds of being contacted improve as your bank account grows.

Contact the Membership office at a bunch of clubs.

Most you will need a sponsor who is a member, some you will need multiple sponsors, and some you won't need any.

Ask if there is a wait list, and if you can pick up an application, be sent an application, or if you must have a member get an application for you.

Then, you wait for approval/denial by the membership committee.

After that it's pay initiation fee (usually a big pile of money), monthly dues, and don't forget about quarterly food and drink minimums.

Don't forget to ask about other amenities. (Practice range, pool, exercise room, tennis, dining, etc.)

Also, make sure you understand the different membership levels, and all the privileges associated with each level.

Also some clubs have a limited number of memberships and memberships are bought and sold. If all are taken you must find a seller. At many you apply for membership and pay an initiation fee then pay monthly dues.

all private clubs have different requirements and fees...the best thing to do is to either call or visit those that you are interested in and ask what the prerequisites are for membership...good luck and putt well!

Sometimes you have to get invited by another member of the club.
