Can I take a bus?

Thanks for the feedback....we've rented a car. I think we may drive in from the south and come up through Amalfi (the Amalfi drive). If anybody has additional advice on that, feel free to offer it up :)

I don't know too much about ferries from Napoli to Sorrento.
Here's a link for yr checking.

In any case it's easier, faster and cheaper by train (about 1 hour trip to reach Sorrento); you take the "Circumvesuviana", that's a private railway. As quoted in the below link you can hop on the train just close to the Napoli Centrale Station.

From Bari to Napoli Centrale (if you want take the Circumvesuviana you need to arrive in this station and not in Napoli Mergellina or Campi Flegrei ,too far from there) you can take the national Trenitalia trains as per below link

Yes, you can take the train to Napoli and catch "un aliscafo" to Sorrento, but it would be easier and faster to take the Circumvesuviana from Napoli. Like the guy above me said, the Circumvesuviana is a local train (it feels like a cross between light rail and a real train), and it has a station basically attached to Napoli Centrale, you dont even have to leave the station to transfer to it. Catching a ferry would require you to catch a bus or walk a long way to get down to the harbor to catch a ferry to Sorrento, and would ultimately take longer (though its probably more picturesque).

You are right. Take a train to Naples. But then I would rent a car. It's a lot faster than by ferry.
