You bet! Its called overhead. If you are paying 2 million for an office that on the other side of the tracks costs 200k then that savings is passed on to you and the dentist still has the same pay check.

A dentist or doctor will charge what the insurance companies are willing to pay. If you don't have insurance that sucks for you because you will pay what the insurance would have plus the co-pay that those with insurance would have to pay. An insurance company won't pay as much to a doctor or dentist that is not inside a hospital or a large dental practice. Also the overhead will be less for the dentist in a poorer neighborhood, so they would likely pass that on to you. On would think so anyway.

Not only do dentist do this, but so does everyone else. I bought a radio at wal-mart a few months back in a richier neighborhood and it cost be $150, a few days later i took it back but went to a wal-mart on the other side of town (the poor side) and when the lady rung it up it was being sold there for $135. So yes dentist as well as everyone else pay attention to demographics and they charge acordingly!

IF THE DENTISTS WORK IN POOR AREAS WHERE THE PEOPLE HAVE LIMITED PRIORITIES, SAY EATING ANY FOOD
OR VALUING THEIR ORAL HEALTH/APPEARANCE, THEN THEY HAVE SEVERAL OPTIONS.
1. ACCEPT A LOWER FEE FOR WHAT THE INSURANCE PAYS FOR THE PLAN.
2.CHARGE A HIGHER PERCENTILE (FEES) REALIZING THAT THE PATIENTS HAVE TO COME UP WITH THE REST OF THE $.
3.CHARGE WHAT EVERYONE CHARGES FOR.
4. CHARGE A BIT MORE AND GET PEOPLE TO DRIVE TO THEIR OFFICE.
PEOPLE PAY FOR WHAT THEY WANT, NOT FOR WHAT THEY CAN AFFORD. HOPE THIS HELPS.

In lower income areas, dentists will usually accept Medi-Cal/Medicaid, which typically pays less to the dentist.
