Could be stress. Have there been "ANY" changes in your home or outside your home?

If skin problems and fleas have been ruled out, I'd suspect stress. Some cats don't handle change well and become neurotic. And then there are some cats who just become neurotic without any explanation as to why. A friend of mine had a Siamese that began pulling the hair on his back out for seemingly no reason. The vet had to put him on kitty Valium.

my cat did the same although his skin was red raw and infected (happened very quickly) started in a localised spot but he started licking the hair out everywhere.the vet suspected an allergy most likely to a single flea bite because he never had them. I kept him inside for about four weeks and put one of those lampshade thingy's on him to prevent him licking the hair out, he began to smell after a while so we bathed him but the problem cleared up.

he's stressing about something. possibly re-arranged or new furniture, noisy neighbours, some sort of domestic upheaval. if you or any of your family are stressed, he could be picking up on that & reacting. but if he has no skin allergies or fleas, i'd say it's definitely stress of some kind. consult your vet on this for treatment as such behaviour is habit forming & your cat could end up seriously hurting himself.

The reason most cats pull their hair out is through frustration with their owners. Have you tried talking to your cat, if not do so you may learn something both about it and yourself.

If not fleas...it must be some other parasite. Cats don't pull their hair out for nothing.

My cat does this every winter. The vet says she is overactive and does it in the winter because she gets less exercise then

Sounds like stress-have there been any changes at home or has he been in a fight with another cat lately?

If he checked out OK at the vet, it could be an obsessive behavior, or a food allergy.
