Why is it so hard for me to open up my heart to another guy? The last time I opened up my heart to a guy he tore it apart. We were together from middle school and then when we were 16 I told him that I loved him and then he left me and I was devasted. Now at the age of 18 I can't still open up my heart to another guy. Does it usually take this long to get over the hurt?

You have to understand that it's OK to get hurt every once in a while. Don't be afraid of it. Everyone goes through it. Some peoples sensitivities are just more acute than others. That may be why you're feeling this way.
Falling in love is always a risky business but you can't isolate yourself because there are plenty of guys out there who will treat you like a real princess. If you never open your heart you're going to miss out on a lot of beautiful moments.
You can always be a little careful who you open your heart to. Just take your time and get to know the person. As they begin to open themselves up to you then you can do the same for them. Little by little is good enough until you find you are completely open with this person. Until then just go slow.

It can take a while because at this point it seems to me that you have very little trust.Your self esteem was probably shattered. You know there is a saying that if you stop looking the right one will eventually come along. After getting your heart broke the first thing to do is open your heart and try not to forget what this guy did to you but to forgive him for what he did. Then start to find happiness and love for yourself.Your selfworth after even this long can still be hard to get back.So don;t worry about any guys right now worry about yourself and learn yourself.GOOD LUCK

i think that it all depends on the person because i know people who recovered from a heartbreak very quickly and some others who took quite a long time to recover. for example it took me quite a long time to get over the heartbreak i went through i think it was almost 2 maybe 3 years till i finally got over it completely and began to move on. but overtime things begin to calm down and you will begin to take those chances again

It could take longer. But hey, you're only 18. You've got a lot longer to live. Unless you're lying.. and you're actually 85.. then... yeah.. it is quite long.. ;)
