I Have a 1992 Jeep Wrangler with stick. Went to drive it today and it wont shift. When i put the clutch in it wants to drive like the clutch isnt properly engaging. Would this be a clutch issue or a transmission issue?

Additional Details

Yes my jeep can easily switch through gears when the engine is turned off. My jeep is a 4 cyl. engine with 5 speeds. I noticed just within the last day that it was harder for me to shift into different gears and realy quickly it wont let me realy switch gears at all with the engine running. And the clutch fluid is full. Thanks for helping me so far, and let me know what you think! much appreciated!

There are two main parts to the clutch assembly, the pressure plate and the clutch disk. When the clutch disk goes out the engine revs freely and the car doesn't move. When the pressure plate goes out the clutch won't work. when you push the clutch a piston pushes the clutch fork which pushes the throwout beating along the input shaft of the transmission this bearing pushes springy metal splines forward which in turn takes the pressure off of the clutch disk and allows the trans to move independently of the motor. It appears that your pressure plate is fatigued and does not disengage the clutch plate. Check your master cylinder and all hydraulic components first though, because they are plastic and look cheap. Replace the throwout bearing, pressure plate, clutch disk and get the flywheel turned so that all pressure surfaces will start with the same even alignment. Don't forget to torque the flywheel in the correct pattern and to the correct torque.

Good luck, at least it's chaeaper and easier than fixing the trans.

I would say throw out bearing & pressure plate. Before ripping everthing out have a look at your clutch fork.

I think a new clutch, pressure plate, & throw out bearing is in order.
Just do yourself a favor before installing replace the Pilot Shaft Bushing.

Sounds like the clutch. I had this problem with the Neon I used to own. Had to replace the clutch.

dude, your clutch is going out! no need to ask any more questions! this happens! it will cost you about 300 dollars (labor included) every standard has this happen! could be worse, you could have an automatic and the transmission go out. very seldom do transmissions go out in a standard. so that isn't you problem.
