H&R Block is like going to an accountant but they are not as professional as a CPA, but both charge you for doing your taxes, no matter how simple. On the other hand, software or online, like Turbotax, basically asks you questions where all the information is in front of you on your W-2, 1099, or whatever. It will even try to get you deductions and it can either be free when you make under $52,000/year or you pay anywhere from $20 to $60. If your taxes are simple and no real estate, investments, and so on then I would suggest just getting turbotax or going to www.irs.gov.

Although there are a few good preparers at H&R Block, most of them took quickie courses and are not even accountants. I suggest you go to a CPA firm and have a CPA do them. Try to get a referral from someone how has used them.
Tax software and online are both about the same thing. If you are comfortable with doing it yourself w/ software, then go for it. But you do need a basic understanding of what you're doing.

Whatever sources you use they are all the same but the only different would be the price that you will have to pay for the preparation fee. Personally my opinion is that if the return is simple then try doing it yourself or even better buy the software. An accountant may charge a bit high. Plus IRS website software is free if you want to file.

It depends on how complicated your situation is. If you have your own business, or own rental properties, it would make sense to see a CPA at least for the first year to learn what you can deduct and what records you need to keep.
If you just have W-2 income, and maybe some interest from a savings account, doing it yourself makes sense.

I went to expresstaxrefund.com to file my taxes online. I set up my account to e-file my taxes and direct deposit the return straight into my bank account. I had my refund in 10 days flat. And the price wasn't bad at all.

try www.taxact.com
its free and easy. Just answer the questions. Thats what I do. We use to go to H7R Block and they charge too much (I think) Why do that when u can do it for free and keep the money yourself vs. paying someone.
