No you have to be 17 to be legally allowed to drive a car!! However if you know someone who owns private land you can practice driving around there because it is private property!!

There are some schemes around the country that allow you to learn on a private site, often very good facilities with road / junctions etc laid out. This is obviously dependant on where you live.
You can also learn to drive & take your test at 16 if you recieve higher level disability allowance aka full Incapacity Benefit.
Heres a link 4 you;

Also worth noting that you can get your provisional license at 16 not 17 as many people have stated. Your moped entitlement starts at 16, your provisional car entitlement starts on your 17th birthday.

Only if it's done on private property. Or if you have a disability you can get your provisional at the age of 16. Otherwise to get your provisional (and therefore to take driving lessons on public roads) you have to be 17.
I know - i was 16 and it sucked!

No. You are NOT allowed to drive a car on public roads until your 17th Birthday. No driving school will even touch your money until you are 17 AND have a provisional licence.

Not on the roads, no - you can't get your provisional license until you are 17. You could have lessons on privately owned land though ( with the permission of the land owner! ), but this wouldn't really give you all the practical experience you'd need for passing your test.

No not until you are 17, although some people with disabilitesa can learn at 16 as they cannot use a moped, not sure what these would include though.

I started at 16. My school allowed 6th formers to use the playground. As soon as we were 17 we went on the road.
