I have shooting stars on my stomach that go up my hips and up my side to my ribs. The other day I asked what color I should color them in.. and a lot of people told me to "shadow" them. What exactly does that mean... and what colors should I use?

I've decided to go with a medium blue for the main BIG star and purple for the medium stars and pink for the smaller stars. I'm going to have three stars added that are completely black, too. I'm still going to have the one big star "glowing" yellow/orange.

What does the "shadowing" mean, and what color should I have them shadowed?

By the way, does anyone have any pics of it?

if there is a lot of stars, dont shadow them, it will distract from the overall effect. This is if by shadowing you mean putting gray "behind" the stars to make them look like they're popping off the skin. This effect looks good on one thing maybe, but not on a collection of things.

a shadow is just that, it would look like the stars were hovering over your skin and were casting a shadow. it is usually done in a grey. here is a picture of my dad's tattoo and there is some shading that makes it look like a shadow. (under the tail)

usually shadowing just mean shading the tat in with black, i guess you can shadow with color, its not filling in the whole tat just partial with color
