If you got into trouble at school, you're likely going to get into trouble at home when you bring home the notice. But if you don't notify your parents yourself (by giving them the letter), the school will just deal with your parents directly, and you'll be in worse trouble.

Try pointing out to them that you're ready to accept the consequences, and you're being honest by bringing them the school notice. Tell them about the punishment you've already received, if it's not in the letter.

In the end, the only way to not get into trouble is to stay out of trouble in the first place!

Like I tell my knucklehead kids...when you get in trouble just man up and face the music. Admit what you did and take your punishment like the good young man I know you are.

it depends on what the referral is for!...i would sit your parents down and have an adult conversation with them starting with what happened and why it happened. then tell them how you feel about what happened and then tell them that because of your actions you received a referral as consequence . its OK to cry and to show that you that you care about what happened. the worst thing you can do is to show that you are angry and and unwilling to except punishment because that shows that you can not except responsibility for your actions. i hope this makes things better good luck
