Puppies can be neutered as early as 6 weeks. It should be done young so that the boy doesn't have to go through the hormone rush of puberty. At puberty he'l begin territorial marking and it will be more likely he'll run off to visit the ladies in heat.
So my vote would be six weeks. Get it over with ASAP.

First off please do not listen to Mark(see above) Congratulations on taking a step to being a responsible pet owner!! It is best to wait until around 6 months although you can do it much earlier. It is recommended to wait until around 6 months because that is when most male dogs are reaching sexual maturity so their hormones have balanced out a little. So neutering at this age will produce a calmer pup! I would recommend talking to your vet about neutering and see his/her opinion on the subject.

The best advice is to do it as soon as your vet gives the go-ahead. Spaying & neutering not only prolongs the good health and life of your dog, it also helps lower the number of animals euthanized each year.
BRAVO to you for not buying into people's idiocy of not spaying or neutering their pet, whatever their insane reasoning! So talk to your vet & schedule that operation! :)
FYI: Did you know that by spaying a female dog before their first estrus or "heat" nearly eliminates their chance of getting uterine or ovarian cancer? Why would you possibly NOT?

Generally dogs and cats are spayed at around 6 months of age. I would discuss this with your veterinarian and see what he recommends. Good Luck to you and your new pup.
