Uncorrected, she just sees blurry, that's all. It is only an additional "twist" to the eye that causes it not to focus correctly. I have had it all my life and am VERY near-sighted as well, so I know! But it can easily be corrected so she can see perfectly fine.

"Usually it is caused by an irregularly shaped cornea (called corneal astigmatism). But sometimes it is the result of an irregularly shaped lens, which is located behind the cornea; this is called lenticular astigmatism. Either kind of astigmatism can usually be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery."

your daughter will see very blurry images that are not straight. think of how we would draw trees as a child--a big stick with a ball on top, the tree trunk would be slanted and the leaves would be a blob on top instead of individual leaves. hope that helps
