Well, him telling you about it is a good sign. Do you have a potty chair? Or are you using the toilet? alot of kids are afraid of the sound of the flushing toilet and the BIG hole! Just be patient. There are also books this day and age (gender related) that encourage kids. Some kids are ready at a young age..Some aren't ready until 3 or 4. Just be patient and encouraging. Get excited when he does go "potty" Make it special and he will quickly learn that its all good!

Best of luck

Both of my daughters were potty trained by the time they were 20 months old, but we just started working with my granddaughter regularly after Christmas (she turned 2 in Sept 06, and started taking off her dirty diapers when she was about 18 months old, but she would only go on the potty chair once in awhile out of curiousity more than anything else.) It depends on the child - your son may just be at that curious stage right now, and not really ready to actually begin potty training. Give him time and use LOTS of patience. If his daddy is around to take him to the potty when HE goes to the bathroom, that might help.

I introduced my son around 18 months to sitting on the potty. Then we took it more seriously around 2yrs old. I bought him the book "Once Upon A Potty", its so cute, he loved it. He wanted to imitate the boy in the book. The only advice I can give you that is close to a guarantee is: once you are ready to make the commitment, forget pull ups- buy character underwear, whoever he is into- they have so many different ones. And NEVER go back to diapers, only at night or if traveling on the plane (if you just started). Tell him not to go pee pee on the character on the underwear. Be patient for one week, you will be surprised how quickly they get the hang of it. Poop is sometimes more difficult for them to get the hang of. I used to bribe my son with things he really wanted, I would save them for the times he actually did the poopy in the potty- but I only did that for the first few times and he was on his way to being fully potty trained.

I easily have 3 sons. I educated the older 2 even as they were 2 and a 1/2 (they only werent waiting in the previous then). there have been some injuries, for sure, you kinda only were given 2 pass with it. They werent that frustrating to coach. inspite of if we nevertheless have some bedwetting probs with the 4 365 days old. My youngest son is now 2 and a 1/2, yet he continues to be no longer thoroughly waiting. i'm particularly in no opt to hurry only yet, because he's the youngest, i'm nevertheless taking area in him being the "toddler" somewhat longer.

My daughter was 18 months old when she wanted to sit on the toilet like I did...she was my little shadow...when I went to the bathroom she went with me. When she started wanting on the toilet I would just set her on it. I didn't expect anything and nothing happened for quite awhile. Finally one day the timing was right, I clapped said that was what the toilet was for and so everytime I went to the toilet she would go in with me and she'd pee a little. Then one day after I'd had a bowel movement she INSITED on seeing since she didn't hear me pee, I let her look, she said "poop" I said yes...she said "me" so I put her on the toilet and she pooped.
