Like Sin City, I come from a small town and I know the cop is corrupt, but he thinks that he is the law, so naturally he is above the law. Meth lab in his house, made a minor move in with him and live there with him, or he would bust her on drugs. And, we are so worried about gang violence.

In various cities I've lived in, I've seen cops selling drugs; using drugs; brutalizing people; harassing young children; propositioning teens, and all sorts of other things. Some police people think that they can get away with anything--and do.

There's a lot of spousal abuse where cops are concerned--and they get away with it. I know a person who was raped by a cop.

This really concerns me, as all the time I was growing up I was told that "...the policeman is your friend..." "...go to a cop if you are lost, or have lost your money..." "...tell a policeman if anyone bothers you...", etc.

Right now, the police are looking for someone in my neighborhood. That person has seemed to vanish into thin air. In the meantime, the police are harrassing everyone who lives on the block. They have entered two houses without permission or warrants. They threatened my son when he said that he doesn't even know this person, and he really doesn't--nor do I. For that matter, none of our neighbors admit to knowing this person. Why they think we all do is beyond me. They have showed a few people two pictures of the person, and no one even recognized him.

There are definitely corrupt cops but you have to look into the reasons why. Some people join law enforcement for the wrong reasons, bullying, power hungry, etc. These individuals typically should be weeded out in the selection process but some get through and become officers. In some cases, such as new york city, they now pay so little to rookie officers that it is now only a matter of time before they have a big corruption problem again. None of the new officers in the NYPD can afford to like on $30,000 a year, its just not really possible. Things like this spawn the corruption found today.
