not a good idea... the warm environment will cause bacteria to grow,so even if it tastes okay, you're ingesting some nasty stuff.

If you don't have a microwave to thaw something quickly, use cold water. I'm not a scientist so I don't understand how it works, just know it does, and the cold water means you won't be perpetuating bacterial growth.

If you are talking about a whole chicken then you cannot effectively defrost it by pouring boiling water on it. It may work on small cuts thats all. As to flavour then it should not do much more than make it smell until fully cooked. If you dry the skin after pouring boilng water on it you can then get a much more crispy skin on the chicken once roasted. The chinese do this for pork and duck

YOU SHOULD NEVER DEFROST A CHICKEN THIS WAY!!!
Defrost it in your microwave or under COLD running water if you have to do it quickly. The preferred method is to thaw it in your refrigerator ahead of time. As far as affecting the taste, I'd be too afraid to try it to find out.

Not at all.

I defrost my meats (but never a whole chicken, just breasts or thighs) by submerging them in a bowl of water and microwaving them until they are thawed, but not cooked.

12 minutes for 6 chicken thighs, 7 minutes for 2 New York steaks.

the proper and save way to defrost a chicken is....to take it ouy of the freezer the night before and place it in the fridge, or to fill your sink with cold water and place the chicken in that.
I would not defrost a chicken with hot water.

I wouldnt advise you to o that. Id suggest putting it in the sink and getting you hot water as hot as possible and put it in there and let it sit for a little while. But leave chicken in the package. Putting it in the microwave is also a bad idea because it will cook the chicken and also make it kinda tough.

Don't know how it would affect the taste but it's not a very safe method of thawing. You should run cold water over it instead.
