The Spyder Pilot is an OK gun for rec play, but I wouldn't trust it too much for tournament play.
I have a Spyder E99 Avant, which is very similar to the pilot(the Spyders are pretty much all the same), and found it to be a good marker. I used it for tournament play my first season, and have now upgraded it to keep as a back up to my Autococker.
The ACS bolt is fairly good as long as you remember to break it in. To do that, what you want to do is either push back on the spring loaded front, or push a stick squeegee down the barrel while you are watching TV or something boring like that. It did have some problems with the electronics, and the switches for the E-trigger were a little fragile(I had to replace it 2 times in about a 4 month period) for use tournament play.
The stock barrel is pretty crappy, but most stock barrels are.
If you do get one for speedball play, I suggest getting the T-board installed with break beam eyes, and get a good barrel kit.
But, if you are going to put money like that into it, you might as well just get an Ion or a Trilogy.
