And how is this going to affect the future?

Thank you!!! If you think this is bad, what about a future where kids were not taught patience?
Kids get instant gratification all the time. Press a button for TV, press one to cook (microwave). We don't even expect them to ride in a car w/o entertainment. So, without learning how to wait quietly, what will the future be like with a bunch of people who want things "my way, right now"?

Think about it-even their toys do the playing for them.

Respect for our elders has seemingly disappeared.
Old people are put in nursing homes or scammed out of their money and life savings by crooks or by people they trusted. They're sent to retirement homes with no means of support in some cases, and they die penniless.
Look at the Chinese or Japanese /Asian society culture. They revere their older generations and still have the utmost respect for elders. Children who are brought up in these homes are lucky because they are taught the wonderful lessons that older people know.
Our future is bleak if we don't do something to protect the older generation, because we will all be the 'older generation' one day.
We hear plenty of politicians and officials saying they will do something, but it never gets accomplished. That's all sham so they can get elected.
What are we to do? Do we just go on the way we are? Do we continue to simply ignore the problem and let someone else take care of it? What would you suggest?

The generation gap between adults and younger people has grown over the past few generations. The invention of the computer and in implementation of the internet has help to create a new sub-culture that has influenced its younger users to move away from the standards of every day society. Another thing is that the children of the 60's are now the parents and the rules were laxed so much that they no long wish to be like their strict parents. The balance has shifted from old to new and therefore we no long respect our elders.

Our elders today were the people who kept black people down, if your in America. Some of them were communist, during the days of Kennedy. Some were even Nazi's, do these people deserve respect? I don't disrespect anyone and of course we have elders who have paved the road for us, that our lives may benefit for the better, both personal and world renown. Your question just made me think a bit further. I mean no disrespect to anyone...

Somewhere during the last 20 years parents stopped teaching children that elders and authority should be respected. Instead, kids started raising themselves, parents mostly became those that provided a roof, clothes and meals, but no real guidance. Kids assumed that they didn't have to respect anyone, and that respect had to be earned.

Every generation gets to a point where they reflect back on the4ir youth and claim that back then people respected their elders. It's a normal part of getting older.

Also, having respect and showing it are two different things.

I too have noticed that respecting of elders has gone by the wayside and it will definitely be sad to see the future treatment of the elderly if this trend continues.

In my opinion, "respect" is earned; it's not a gift that comes with age. I, for example, will be decent to anyone who is decent to me. I don't think that will change much in the future. A good person will be a good person know matter how the world changes. The same goes for bad people.

If people want respect, they need to show respect. And that includes the elders.
