OK, I know this sounds funky, but it REALLY works a lot better than tomato juice and it's 100% less messy!

Use Masingil powered douch. Depending on the size of the dog, it might take a couple of boxes. Dilute it to 50% of the water that it lists on the package. It will leave your dog springtime fresh!

When a friend of mine got sprayed - he soaked in a bath of tomato juice. He thought there was a kitty on the front porch and it turned out to be a skunk!!! Anyhow tomato juice seemed to work pretty well - I don't think anything but time can completely get rid of it!

DON'T bath your dog in tomato juice! Its an urban legend, its even been busted on myth busters, you'll just end up with a pink dog. There are several good recipes on the internet, however the basics go water, baking soda and H. peroxide for white or light dogs and replace the peroxide with vinegar for black or dark dogs. Search it on the internet for the right combinations and what not to avoid your very one little "volcano". There are also many commercial products available. Most work well.

My cousin believed the tomato juice myth as well and ended up with a big patchy pink husky that still smelled. My friend used the baking soda, water and vinegar on her rottie, smell was gone in an hour.

Mythbusters did a segment on this and found that mixing baking soda and peroxide works better than even the commercial skunk removing solution. Sprinkle the baking soda all over, then poor on peroxide and let set a while, rinse well.

You can you tomato juice, but from experience I will tell you that you will then have a skunky dog that smells italian...lol

Honestly they are correct. The acid in tomatoes clean out the aweful smell of skunks. So go to the grocery store and get some tomatoe paste, or tomatoe sauce ( don't cook with it!! ) and give him and nice rub down in the tub!! He may try to eat it but it works my dog did the same thing.

if you are worried about the money, a tomato juice bath will sometimes help. my dog got sprayed by a skunk and I asked the vet. he said to use febreeze on them, just make sure you dont spray it in their eyes. it will take care of the smell pretty good.

Go to your local pet store and either purchase Natures Miracle Skunk Odor Remover or another product call Skunk Off. These products can be applied directly on your pet and are non toxic. Good Luck.

Tomato juice will work - but you need to bath your dog in it repeatedly. A more effective method is mix 1 quart 3 % hydrogen peroxide (from drug store), 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 teaspoon liquid soap (dish soap is fine). Bath your dog and work the solution into his coat. Rinse really well. Be sure to discard any unused solution because the release of oxygen caused by the chemical reaction could make the container explode.

The age old remedy is tomato juice... give the dog several baths in the stuff. I've never had anyone (luckily) sprayed, so don't have that first-hand experience. Have you tried googling for "de-skunk" stuff???

On some dogs tomato juice bath will work. My Great Dane is one who it works on. My Irish Wolfhound I tried tomato juice, then febreeze, then the Massengil trick. All to no improvement, but by then he was in a real bad mood. Off to the groomer and had him shaved, then another tomato juice treatment. He then smelled ok again, but it took a while for him to look normal again. I literally had to gnaw on the insides of my cheeks to prevent myself laughing at him for the first week, for he was a really strange sight without his normally beautiful coat.
