1) Roll your clothes up when packing as you can get more into the bag with less creases.
2) Wear appropriate shoes for the travel you are doing and look after them (polish and waterproof them) as they last longer.
3) If you can't carry your luggage, you are carrying too much or carrying it in an appropriate baggage.
3) Look after your feet and stomach - most health problems arise from bad feet (primarily from not letting enough air get to them) or from bad food/drink.
4) Pace yourself - eat well, keep hydrated, sleep properly.
5) Take enough cash in the currency of the country being visited to get you to the hotel, to pay for dinner and breakfast.
6) Take copies of passport and insurance and keep them separate from your originals.
7) Take two debit/credit cards e.g. one Mastercard, one Visa but keep them separate so if one gets lost or doesn't work, the other hopefully will.
8) Keep insurance contact details and policy number as well as hotel and next of kin contact in your wallet.
9) Use online and self service check in facilities at airports as it saves time and queueing.
10) Have a web based email address.
11) Have a BT chargecard.
12) Switch on international roaming on your UK mobile but if in a foreign country for at least 6 weeks, get a local mobile. Divert your UK mobile to answerphone and check messages at least once a day. It will be cheaper.

1. Research about where you plan to go. That way, you know all the customs for that place and won't seem like an "intruder." Also, knowing a few phrases (if the language is different) could help in getting around better. Another thing is that you should find out some places you can visit in advance, and if you can understand, talk to people who live there for suggestions. 2. Bring extra currency. You never know when you're going to be in a pinch. Or, traveler's checks could work, too. 3. Make sure you know the laws. Laws differ from country to country, so if you break a law there that you've never heard of, then that sort of ruins a vacation. P.S. Never go anywhere without your ID and don't lose your passport if you plan on going home! Hope this helps and you have a fun trip! :D

Before I traveled for the first time someone told me that her husband in the military never leaves without a set of sheets from home. I took a set of mine, it didnt take a lot of space and i cant tell you how much it came in handy, some of the hotels i stayed at in Egypt we not the most clean, but the trip was a blast. Also, bringing zip lock bags were a god send because no matter how good the caps are on on your things, something always leaks.

ziplock bags rule. Use them to pack everything.
Put your underwear in ziplock backs so when security goes through your bags, they won't have to touch your underwear.
You can put items in ziplocks and suck the air out through a straw to compress clothes.
Put shampoo and other liquids in ziplocks to prevent spillage in your suitcase.
Use ziplocks for any small items you don't want lost. Ziplock up your chargers and adapters.
roll your clothes and remember how your suitcase will sit...pack breakables to the top and back of the suitcase, heavy items and "crushable-friendly" on the bottom.
Tie a ribbon or put orange reflector tape on your bag to identify it at the airport carousel.
Keep your cash in separate pockets and always just keep $2 in one pocket for tipping the same amount all the time without being compelled to over-tip a bellhop or skycap.
Carry your own pillowcase, or pillow to prevent allergy problems with the hotels. Carry a small bottle of antiseptic cleanser for hotel bathrooms and phones.
Drink water and juice for flights...they are nothing more than dehydrating germ bullets in the sky. Carry gum and a small bottle of lightly scented hand moisturizer. Chew gum for the ear popping, and put hand cream on just after takeoff. Someone always has gas and stinks up the plane, you can sniff your hand and not get sick from the smell.
If you can check it....check it! Don't carry more as a carry-on than you need to. If you are changing airlines, maybe reconsider checking a bag as the risk of losing it increases.
Wear slip-ons and minimal jewelry to go through airport security.
If going on a long trip, carry a wardrobe that is interchangeable, then carry 1/2 the clothes for the whole trip...and use the hotel laundry service.
Join the frequent flyer programs. Even without miles, being a member offers benefits and considerations.

Before you leave home, do a trial pack. Then check again and throw out half the things in your suitcase. Do you really need to carry all that stuff?
Before you leave, make sure you have passport, tickets, money.
If you decide to carry cash, split it up so if you lose some, you don't lose it all.

Always keep your passport, travel tickets and cash you don't need for today, in the free safe deposit box at the front of the hotel.
If you're mugged, you've still got almost everything.
