i no they have to eat but why does a plant.. need animals?

Their roots are not capable of extracting nutrients from the soil.

This plant and other plants that also eat insects live in places where the soil is very poor -- especially bogs. The plants need to get nutrients from the insects that most plants get from the soil -- especially nitrogen.

Soil is poor in bogs because the dead plant matter does not decay entirely in the oxygen-poor conditions.

They grow in swamps which usually have soil that is poor in nutrients (like nitrogen) that plants need, because all of the moisture washes minerals out of the soil.
