I am a Christian and this is how I understand it. The theory of evolution states that organisms are capable of adapting to their environments (survival of the fittest) and after enough time and enough adaptations the species changes intowhat is essentially a new species.

I'm no longer a Christian, but when I was educated in a Christian school in Australia in the 1970s I never heard anyone say they believed that the Genesis account was literally true. They would have been thought very odd. Evolution was a scientific fact, and it had nothing to do with religion.
It's a very strange cultural experience coming on to a site like this which seems to be dominated by Americans. Do you guys realise that the creation vs evolution debate is really only taken seriously in one country?

I am a Christian and I do believe God created everything but then he let us "go," so to speak. Since our creation, we (like most things) adapted to our environment and the environment to its environment. Humans began to walk upright to reach food in trees and to get away from predators more easily; and, hence, no longer needed large knuckles. The hair on our bodies became more fine when we began wearing clothes and moving to warmer regions. The Chinese could be generally short in stature because they needed to adapt to their limited amount of space. Just some ideas.
I believe in science and miracles. I believe in creation and evolution...just not as ridgedly as they teach them.
There is scientific proof of human evolution from skeletons found during digs but there are also numerous unexplained things that led to it. Do you seriously believe that we started as ooze? If you do...where did the ooze come from? Or what caused the big bang in the big bang theory in the first place? There are a lot of holes in those theories. I take everything with a grain of salt.

the universe just popped into existence from nowhere. Over millions of years planets formed. Somehow one celled organisms came into being in the oceans. Over eaons, these organisms grew into more complex life-forms & kept changing into different creatures, each different & more complex & with different DNA. Humans are primates and we are descended from apelike creatures, from the same apelike creatures as monkeys & apes. What have I left out? Oh, yeah, it's hogwash. How can any sane person look @ all that & not see how ludicrous it is.

God created, and then it all evolved, except for aligators and crocs who seem to be very much the same. For example, when He created man, we evolved and are still evolving, supposedly getting smarter every generation (though thats up for debate), getting taller. The first humans were black but as groups went to colder climates their hair, eyes and skin lightened as they didn't need so much pigmentation to protect them from the sun.

I only have limited understanding of this concept, so please be patient.
From what I understand, evolution occurs over a period of time because of damaged/mutated DNA that gets copied. If this change suits the organism in question, the organism survives to pass this mutated DNA on to its offspring.
It seems logical to me.

When you drop all the $50.00 words and semantics it comes down to this.
The DNA code is the result of an accidental explosion of nothing caused by nothing billions of years ago.
Time + chance = life
Mindless, non-living matter converts itself into intelligent, functioning living things

that's contradicting Christians
Evolution was thought up by people that have no faith that just because you can't see him that he isn't real.
Science can't explain everything and the scientist hate to admit it.
I can explain all LET THERE BE LIGHT AND THERE WAS
