i stole my boyfriend's atm card without him knowing and took money out of his and his parent's accounts through his atm card. they found out that someone was taking money so they filed a police report and the police are suposed to review the video footage from the atm machine to see if they can figure out who took the money. if they come up with a picture, they will ask my boyfriend to see if they can recognize anyone. if they can prove that my boyfriend didn't take the money then it's considered fraud and the bank is responsible and they will get their money back and the bank will go after me. so if i turn myself in and accept all that will happen to me, do you think they will have to tell my boyfriend and his parents that it was me? can they just tell them that they found the person and the bank will reimburse them and then it will be between me and the bank and the police?

i should add that i took the money because i have a drug problem and i was intending on putting it back and then i lost my job and **** went downhill. i would rather face jail time than dissapoint my boyfriend like that.

you can be charged with indentity theft (since you used his card) fraud, and/or theft. depending on how much money you took it could be a big deal. you will be responsible for paying the money back plus fines and any other restitution the court feels is necessary. theft under $500 is usually a misdemeanor and theft over $500 is a felony punishable up to a year in county jail. your best bet is to come clean to his parents and have them drop the charges if they can, but it might be too late since the bank has a hand in it. turn yourself in and promise to pay the money back - maybe you will get away with probation if you are lucky.
sorry to hear about your drug problem - i am a recovering addict and i used to take money from my dads account daily. luckily for me he never pressed charges, but i recommend getting some help. if you go in front of the judge explain to him that you have a drug problem and thats why you took the money maybe he will send you to rehab instead of jail. rehab saved my life - in more ways than one. i went to court for my 2nd DUI and the judge sent me to drug and alcohol treatment, i am forever in debt to that judge. good luck with your problem - i hope you will make a good descision about your situation.

if you are afraid for your life you should get into an inpatient treatment facility asap. they arent allowed to tell anyone (including the cops) that you are there and it will look really good for you if you complete treatment before you have to go in front of the judge.
and just to be blunt about it - your problems arent going to get any easier until you get clean.

Your boyfriend and his parents have the right to know who stole their money. I doubt the bank will keep it between you and them if you turn yourself in although that would be the best thing to do. Your relationship is already doomed for what you did. He will probably recognize you when he sees the picture of you taking the money out of the bank and will be furious to think you stole from him and his family. Face it you have a serious problem and you need help. He and his parents are going to get their money back either way, but you will be prosecuted when they find you. What you did was very serious. What a high price to pay for drugs.

Ughhh....yeah...you are busted. Big time. The police will tell your boyfriend and parents who stole their money. And rightfully so. You'll probably go to jail. And you should. You can possibly get help while being incarcerated. If not, at least you'll be clean for however long your sentence is. You can probably count on not having a boyfriend after this. I think they'll ask your boyfriend and his parents if they want to press charges. I hope they do. You need help. Stealing from people that you supposedly care about is very wrong. It sounds to me like you really don't want to take any responsibility for your deceitful actions. I'm sorry , but, I really don't have any sympathy for you. You deserve what you get and I hope you are scared. Maybe you'll think twice the next time you try to rip someone off that cares about you.

Yes the police can tell your boyfriend and his family that you commited the crime. Most likely this is going to court, either city (mis) or DA's office. So which ever court gets the case, there will be a copy of what happen, and what you said to the officers. Your b/f and family will be listed as Victims, and they have the right to know whom is being charged, date & time of all the court hearings, plus they have a right to be at the hearings, and speak at stg. Also the bank would not come after you, they would press charges against you. What state do you live in? Depending were you commited the crime, ur situation could vary. Not to worry you but there are advocates at the courts that have to inform the victims of each crime of everything. By victim I mean the b/f and family are listed as Victims b/c "there was a crime against them" .

When someone is charged with an offence it become a matter of public record. I would tell the complainant who is responsible for the crime if the person responsible is over 18yrs.
I would come clean ASAP and maybe your boyfriend and his parents will decide not to lay charges.
Your boyfriend obviously gave you his PIN, so once the bank knows this and that you are his girlfriend, I really doubt that they will reimburse his money. I think he is out of luck.
Your best bet is to apologize and promise to re-pay and hopefully they will forgive you and not want to file charges.

Its hard to feel sorry for you. What in the world would make you steal from your boyfriend..and his family?? Why would you need money so bad? Why couldn't you just ask him to borrow the cash? That is the most sneaky underhanded crap I have heard in a really long time.
I think you should tell the family..and maybe they will take pity on your pathetic soul...and drop the charges...but really in order to learn a lesson, I think I wouldn't drop charges. I would have you arrested..what you did was stupid, and against the law..nd no matter how cute you are, or pretty..what you did was wrong, and you should have to pay it all back, and then some.

1. Either way you will get caught and they will know.
2. SHAME ON YOU!!! Someone trusts you and you have a serious lack of integrity and your big issue here is that you dont want them to know it was you!?!?
3. I hope you get years in prison for your attitude and what you have done. No one deserves to be treated like that.
4. Any legal preceeding is a matter of public record, so whether the police tell them or not (which they probably will) they will find out when the case is closed and made public.

No. They'll have to tell him. You're screwed. What you SHOULD do to avoid a criminal record is admit everything to your boyfriend and his family first, and see if they'd be willing to retract the police report. Have them tell the cops it was all a misunderstanding, and that you had their permission to withdraw the funds. If they're merciful people, maybe they'll go along with it. Either way, you probably don't have a boyfriend anymore.
Do this IMMEDIATELY, and show genuine remorse. Throw yourself on their mercy. It's the only way to prevent a serious crime from being on your permanent record! Don't delay.
Regarding your "additional information..." If you DON'T tell your boyfriend, he's going to find out ANYWAY, and you'll STILL go to jail. Then you'll never be able to find a good job. One way or the other he's GOING to find out! Try to avoid jail by doing what I said.
Holy crap, girl! Just read your additional additional information... If you think you'd be safer in jail than out on the streets when your boyfriend finds out, then you have much bigger problems than what you've let on.

No they will show your boyfriend and his parents a picture of you and ask them if they recognize you;but that is the least of your problems. Bank fraud and theft of property are class C and class Y felonies,you are most likely looking at some time in the joint.

it depends in what state you live in.In most cases ATM theft is a Federal offense.I am sure any police agency is obligated to tell the victims of the crime.It is a shame that a drug pushed you to betray the trust of your boyfriend.Think about what his parents are going to say to him.Get help and get off the drugs and stop hanging out with people like the ones that persuaded you to do what you did
