lots of animals not just cats, think of it as a sign of security.

My cats do the same thing. They love boxes and anything that they can hide under (blankets, in drawers etc...)In fact anything that is moved in the house (furniture etc...) has to be investigated and sat on! It might be a security issue with the box, but it could also be a great place to hide for a surprise attack on one of their siblings!
Maybe it blocks some of the noise in their environment too?

LOL so does mine. We have a beer box that we put on the ground and he jumped into it, there was a little flap and he disappeared right into the box. He thinks that when he sits in the box the dog can't get him. It is pretty cute. I think they just love the comfort of the confined walls of a box!

My kitty sits in bags. Cats are curios creatures. They love tight, small spaces because it makes them feel like they've found a home. A cat has an instinct to find a rest area that she or he can return to. Such as a box, under a bed, or even in a store bought bed.
She or he is normal!

Boxes, paper bags, open drawers, anything they can climb into is fair game for a cat. They just have to explore and conquer. My cat loves all of these things and I bought him the cubes that you attach together, HE LOVES THEM! I have connected a bunch of them together and he goes inside and hides. Pops out of the openings all over the place and thinks I don't know where he is. Very funny!

cats love boxs, mine do too. I think it brings some quality from their wild side out. They like small dark places to hide. My cat used to sit in the bottom of a basket all curled up.

My cats love boxes too and it can be annoying but cute. I think it's all about security and curiosity.

I think that it's a sence of security. At least they can hear the vibrations around the box. They feel safe there for some reason. My kitty loves boxes.

Mine do the same, but when I bought them a cat cube they want nothing to do with it. They sit in the sink, in suitcases, but not in anything made for cats! Not sure why - I guess it is interesting to them!

Well they aren't always sure what is in it. So they play in them. They think of it as exploring. Just having fun with a box just cause the way it is built.
