I work at a ski resort but not as an instructor. While I can understand thinking you can learn yourself, you should really consider getting a lesson. Many resorts have a beginner intro package that includes a lift ticket, ski rental, and a beginner lesson all at a discounted rate. If you only want to ski once don't take a lesson. If you try to just go out and do it you will develop bad habits in your skiing. If you continue to ski, it can be very hard to get over these and correct them. I hope you will take a lesson because it provides a solid foundation for your skiing. Take a lesson and work on what they taught you the next few times and then you are ready to progress and advance on your way to skiing the black hills. ** Also tell them that you snowboard since they can relate things to snowboarding and you will learn skiing quickly since you already know how to snowboard.

Skiing is easier to pick up and snowboarding is very tough for the first few days, but once you get going you will excell quickly. I say skiing, especially if you will only be there for 2-4 days....you will be able to take like one ski lesson and then you should be fine for the rest of the trip as a skiier. With boarding, you have to take more lessons!

You should probably get lessons. Snowboarding is pretty different than skiing, and it's ALOT easier if you get lessons.
Also, I'm in Tahoe right now! I'm staying at Harrah's. I just thought it was funny that we're in the same place.

You should take the lesson because it is very helpful. Sure you could learn on your own, but it is harder to do. Try the lesson and see how it goes. It will help you a lot with skiing.

i'm going to tahoe this weekend too!
u should take a lesson so that you don't develop bad habits early on. you can get down the moutain one way or the other, but if you want to be any good, u should learn the right tactics from a professional.

Its totally different. I would go with a paid lesson no question. !st major difference is facing forward vs. sideways. And I have been skiing for my whole life and i dont understand the previous "lean right, go left" comment. I lean the way i turn, as well as every other skier ive seen. But welcome back from the dark side, its good to have you!

definately take lessons, most resorts offer a rental/lesson/lift ticket package. learning on your own could be so much harder.
I think you're gonna want to stick with snowboarding though.
