....have accused both me and one of my friends of stealing our own car.

I got into a traffic accident about a year ago and after he let the other person go he told me that my car was registered under the name of some woman (i'm a male if you can't tell) , I actually argued with the cop whether or not it was registered under my name until he radioed in and they told him it was registered under (my name).

Now just half a week ago my friend who had just bought his truck was driving me back to my car in a WalMart parking lot, parked right next to my car and as I got out some cop pulled in behind us blocking us in, walked up to my friend's car and asked for his registration, after a long time passing he came back explaining that a truck that looked like his was reported stolen earlier that day. But it is ridiculous because the truck still had the plates from the dealership he bought it from.

So my question is, are these cops just running us into some system of theirs so they know who we are?

just the same the cop didn't need to block us in to run the truck's license plate #. besides that my friend was pulled over later for speeding, and told that cop about the incident, the cop said that he knew that it wasn't the stolen truck, it was a different color

Hard to say....but, this does sound like the typical cop that doesn't have anything better to do.

The two stories are unrelated. In the first, the dispatcher (or the officer) probably had a typo when running the plate, giving back someone else's information. Not a big deal. In the second situation, if say a gray toyota tacomo was recently stolen, and he see's a gray toyota tacomo with dealer plates, don't you think he should look in to it a little further? And if it is stolen, chances are the person is not going to throw up his hands and give up, they are going to try to run. In which case blocking the vehicle makes sense too. The whole world is not out to get you.

Allrighty all you rocket scientists.....you sitting down for this one. You can actually CHANGE license plates on a vehicle!!!!!!! I have even heard of bad guys changing a license plate on a stolen vehicle to......you ready for this......to try throw off the cops! Is that weird or what? Apparantly you folks didn't know that could be done huh.....yeah....those little bolts that hold a license plate on....they come off.

THAT would explain the truck-license-plate-possibly-stolen vehicle-everyones-out-to-get-you-fiasco....as far as the cop telling you your car was registrated to someone else....its possible he made a mistake when he ran your plate and didn't want to own up to it.....

Either that....or like a said before....it is a consiracy by the cops to throw you in jail on a stolen vehicle charge.

Maybe it was a slow day, or the donut shop was closed for cleaning and repairs.
