Chinatown - this Sunday is the start of the Chinese New Year (it's the Year of the Boar). There is a parade from 1pm to 5 - there are dragon dances - the parade goes through Canal Street, East Broadway, Mott Street. At 7, there is a fireworks display at Columbus Park - Mulberry Street and Bayard. This year, the Grucci Brothers are doing the show. It's going to be very crowded; restaurants are serving banquets and large families go out to eat, so you will probably not get into your first few picks of restaurants. Chinatown is also a good place for inexpensive souvenir shopping (you can get your date a purse or scarf or watch - something she can take home and keep.
Walk through Grand Central Station; visit the food court downstairs and get snacks (split a piece of Junior's Cheesecake). You can check out the stores on Fifth Avenue near Rockefeller Center. Interested in ice skating? You can skate in Central Park or Rockefeller Center (skating is free in Bryant Park, but I don't know if they've reopened the rink since Fashion Week. Walk over to Times Square - visit Madame Toussad's - great place to take pictures with "celebrities" (bring your camera). The Staten Island Ferry is free - and it's a really nice ride with someone special. Try some great New York pizza. You can go to the East Village - some outstanding very inexpensive restaurants and really nice shops. The West Village is a great area to explore. Of course, if we get the amount of snow they are predicting (they're usually wrong) you can have the whole city to yourself. Traffic will be at a standstill and you'll be able to get theatre tickets easily because there will be a lot of cancellations.
Whatever you decide to do, have a great time!

Absolutely, you must move. New York could have a terrorist hazard on account that the United Nations is there, it is among the so much populated locations at the face of the planet, and this can be a fascinating situation to hate as witnessed via the assaults of nine/eleven. However, it is among the so much visually fascinating and interesting locations that everybody must enjoy. As an artistic man or woman, you're sure to look or pay attention matters that extend you as a man or woman. Go for it and do not fear approximately the threats. Life is stuffed with uncertainty and if we base our choices on threats, we will be able to in no way make choices. There is an H1N1 flu protecting the nation and I am definite New York is now exception. If you get unwell, one of the crucial satisfactory hospitals are proper there. Teaching ones in which they are able to research you and coach long run medical professionals. Go for it. Look round always and be mindful of your atmosphere. Stay in a organization or with yet another man or woman. Take extra money than you feel you are going to want. During the day use your ft and the subway, then take a taxi at night time.

Once you arrive, you can go to Rockefeller Center and have a coffee at Dean & Deluca if you're arriving in the morning. Take a stroll at Fifth Avenue and walk your way to Central Park. I don't know how bad the weather is there because of the snow so make sure you check the forecast for Sunday.
You can check-in a hostel in NY since you're not from the city. They allow people from other states to check in the hostel. That way, you can save money and stay for one night.
It's nice to go out and walk around during the evening...just make sure you dress yourself really warm. There's a lot of hostels in upper west side.
You can try the free ferry going to Staten Island also so you can see the Statue of Libery for free! :)
When you arrive at the Grand Central Station, get a copy of New York Map, it will guide you where to go using subway and bus. You can take a cab, but it will cost you more.
Try this site for hostels in NY. Really cheap, although, some hostels, you have to stay with a couple of people like Hostelling International New York.

You, wouldn't find many things to do around this time because you might have heard that we are getting the snow/ ice storm tonight, But if by the time you come and it's alll good you and your gal might be good aswell.
For day one, you could start from Lower Manhattan and work uptown. Start in Lower Lower Manhattan at the Statue of Liberty ! try to leave early and get there around 7:20 A.M because last time my family went we got there before 8 A.M and we got free admission! but before entering Clinton Circle(Where u get the tickets) walk around the park. If you do walk around the park you're going to see statues and some remains from the WTC but Start making line(s) around 7:40! the rest is here:
http://www.nps.gov/stli/planyourvisit/feesandreservations.htm
In the ferry, it leaves at 8:10 A.M You'll get there around 8:30 A.M.... try get resverfations to get in the statue because we needed to make that in we couldn't go in...... so like try getting off the island around 12:30 P.M and went you getto the pier... it would be like a highway. you'll see signs that have arrow and they will say: To New Jersey make a right/ Ellis Island second peir/ and return to manhattan left. You wanna get on the one to Ellis Island ! E. Is was kinda boring to me but maybe you'll enjoy it if you like history try getting off at 2 P.M so in total you will spend from 50$-65$
Then after you get to manhattan it should be around 2:25 P.M and go UP to canal Street and eat something till like 3:40 P.M then go up to W.34 street to the Empire State Building you should be there around 4:00 P.M. the tickets are 18.00s per person so thats um.... 36.00$ plus the slivernire about 10-15 Dollars more info here
