how much time did you date your spouse before getting married?

I am not from the USA, but it seems that over there most couples get married within a couple of years..what´s the hurry? I was with my husband 12 years before getting maried (we did live together,so it was more or less the same thing)

if you think 12 years is a very long time..I should mention we were only 16 and 17 when we met and had a long-distange relationship for about 7 years,because we are from different countres and wanted to study first in our own country..

I knew my husband for 4 years- he was a friend of a friend, passed him in the halls at school. That kind of thing. I went away to college, we kind of reconnected when I came back to my home town. We dated for 6 months, he proposed & we got married 4 months later. We now have 2 children & have been married for over 5 years.

My husband & I went on our first date for Valentines Day, in 2001. We were engaged by the end of March, and married May 2001. We've been happily married every since, and now have 2 little boys.

I think there is no set time really, I never thought I'd marry someone that fast. I always thought it would be years, after high school, college, etc. But when it's right, it's right, we were in love and that's what we both wanted.

We did live together (one week after our first date we moved in together) before we were married, so there was no real "hurry" other than we both wanted to start our family, and wanted to be married when we had children.

I knew my fiance as a friend for about 9 months before we started dating, then we dated for 9 more months and bought a house and got engaged. we're getting married this fall. :) there's no rush, we are just old enough and have been through enough to know it's right.
