My son is 17 years old and he also is in high school and working part time. He did not make very much last year, but he filed a 1040EZ just so that he could get back the federal taxes he paid. He is getting a refund, even though it is pretty small, but it's worth it to file a return just to be able to do that---even if you don't necessarily have to because of the income requirements.

If you can claim her as a dependent, and all of her income was from her job and is shown on a W-2, then she wouldn't have to file unless she made over $5150. But if she made less than that but had anything withheld for federal income taxes, she should file to get her money refunded. She could file a 1040EZ, and should check the YOU box on line 5 that says she can be claimed as a dependent.

If she earned more than $5,150 in 2006, she needs to file a return. If she made less, but her employer withheld federal income tax, she should still file to get a refund of the amount withheld.

You better be a troll... What is wrong with you? If I were them, I would run away or at least kill myself! That music that you find unacceptable, (Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance, for god's sake! How can you say it's satanic!) it may be the only feeling that they feel when being under your roof. The fact that your children, had no interaction with other children, they will want to meet more people since you deprived them until they were in high school! Obviously, they're going to want to express themselves and you are just trying to kill what makes them human. You better look over your mistakes before you wreck your next kid that you mentioned before.

Well your daughter should file taxes if she earns 3300 or more however, to teacher that this is important and that filing taxes can be beneficial to her. Here is what you do... I would guess that she lives with you so, she would only get the standard deduction for a single person and should get back whatever taxes she overpaid after the standard deductionis subtracted from her income then you can not claim her as an exeption but you CAN still claim her for your earned income credit, if she lives with you .
I do taxes and many young people file taxes and get money back, so with you still being able to get the earned income credit for her.
The form she should use is 1040EZ
Good Luck!

It depends upon her income. If she had wages of $5,150 or more, or if she had self employment income of $400 or more, or unearned income of $850 or more, she must file a return.
If she earned less but had taxes withheld from her wages, she'll need to file to get a refund of the taxes withheld.

If she received a W2 or 1099 statement from her employer, she needs to file a 1040...probably a 1040EZ.
