If you go to the NYT link, it's the pose that looks like a cross between the tree and the triangle.

First priciple of Yoga - don't do any thing you can't do easily. You have to graduate to each and every pose in yoga.

The students who are lying down in the photo are doing a relaxation pose called savasana also known as corpse pose.

It looks to me like they're doing Ardha Baddha Padmottanasana (Half Bound Lotus Standing Forward Bend). Hard to tell though, in a still picture.

It looks like the tree pose, mixed with the triangle pose. I can't find anything that looks just like that one though.

It's called the corpse posture, or the shava-asana.
