Like the Pavlov experiment (ring a bell, dogs salivate because they expect food)?
Google Ivan Pavlov.
Otherwise, all treat-based training is essentially using treats to affect a dog's memory. If I hold up a treat, any one of my dogs will automatically sit down because it was the first thing they learned to do for a treat. They remember. I don't have to say a word. :)

We tried an IQ test with our dogs, I don't know if this is the one your looking for, but it does work! You take a opaque plastic cup and a treat. Show your dog the treat, and let your dog see you putting the treat under the cup. If your dog can find the treat in a reasonable amount of time, and can knock over the cup to get to it (make sure the cup is an appropriate size for your dog) then they have passed. Hope this helps!

Also a Google search for B.F.Skinner may help.
