I woke up Sunday morning with a fever and body aches. I took Tylenol for the fever and pain. I also experienced cold-like symptoms and a mild sore throat. On Monday, I stayed home from school (I'm 14) and experienced the same symptoms with a more severe sore throat and the same high fever. I went to the doctor on Monday and I was prescribed Amoxicillin (first dose= the second of two daily doses on Monday) and a cough mixture (3 daily doeses). I experienced cold-like symptoms Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Since Sunday I have been taking throat lozenges. --
Do I have strep?
When will the anti-biotic kick in and when will I feel better?

I doubt if you have strep, your Dr. would have check for it. You've only been on antibiotic for just 24 hours, give it time. In the mean time gargle with warm salt water it helps the throat. Drink LOTS of liquids and I mean water it's the best. If you insist on something else, drink it at room temperature, it will help the pain also. Stay away from milk, it makes it worse. No orange juice that causes more pain because of the citric acid. Watch the throat lozenges they are medicine and it is possible to overdose on them. Suck on a lollipop or peppermint candy. I know this stuff works I had strep throat every year till I was 21.

Does'nt sound adore it. The average signs of strep throat incorporate: one million. Severe and surprising sore throat with out coughing, sneezing, or different bloodless signs. two. Pain or challenge with swallowing. three. Fever over one hundred and one F; (reduce fevers might point out a viral illness and no longer strep.) four. Swollen lymph nodes within the neck. five. White or yellow spots or coating at the throat and tonsils. 6. Bright pink throat or darkish pink spots at the roof of the mouth on the again close the throat. 7. Swollen tonsils, despite the fact that this symptom can also be prompted by means of a viral illness. (In young adults, mononucleosis can rationale a extreme sore throat that appears like and has signs very similar to the ones of strep throat.) eight. It is handy to inform you probably have a sore throat or a bloodless. It is more difficult to understand you probably have strep throat. Generally, sore throats are prompted by means of a viral illness and no longer strep micro organism. Strep throat often does no longer arise with bloodless signs akin to coughing, sneezing, or a runny or stuffy nostril. The extra bloodless signs you may have, the fewer most likely it's that your sore throat is a strep illness. nine. In a few instances of strep illness, a epidermis rash develops and spreads over the neck and chest and finally over the entire frame. The rash feels tough like sandpaper. This situation is known as scarlet fever. Scarlet fever is dealt with with antibiotics, which often result in a speedy recuperation. Scarlet fever isn't hazardous if dealt with.

While this may "sound like strep", there's no way to say definitively that you have it unless you've been diagnosed with it and you haven't said that you were. Did you have a throat culture taken?
It takes 48 hours for an antibiotic to "kick in". Continue the Amox and finish it and treat the symptoms. If you were tested for it, you'll know soon enough. In the meantime, you might want to ask whichever parent took you to the doctor about what the doctor felt you may have.

As a healthcare provider, most of the answers you have gotten so far have some reasonability to them. Amoxicillin will be effective for strep, so the test results are really not important. I often wonder why some providers do strep tests if they are going to treat anyway. The antibiotic usually needs 24 yo 48 hours for you to be noncontagious, but not cured. It still take time for infections to be eradicated. You will feel bad for awhile. However, I tell all my patients that if there is no improvement in five days they need to return.

Did the doctor do a throat culture for strep? That's really the only way to know for sure if you have strep. I hope you feel better soon...sore throats are the worst.

It sounds like strep to me. Usually it taks about 24-48 hours for the medicine to start working. You should be feeling better soon. Just rest and keep taking your meds as prescribed. If after you finish your treatment and you still don't feel better call you dr and they will either have you come in again for more tests or give you more and/or stronger medication. Hope you feel better soon.

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Doctor would have diagnosed strep...So I would go back and tell him you need more anti-biotics....until then Have your mom buy lemons and squeeze the juice out ( you should get a little over a shot) and swallow it. Yes, its sour but sore throat instantly goes away !
