I ask this seriously, Why? Understand me, I believe in freedom of religion, but I do not understand the need of the religious to be hateful. Case in point, most religions say being gay is wrong. Fine. But, why do people who may not agree with or even believe what a religion says, be subjected to their admonitions? If you disagree with someones life, so be it. Why do you care? There are many people who do not subscribe to this yet are constantly bombarded with rhetoric and bile. Now of course there are those who say things like, well that's the majority and they rule. Well if you're going to use that logic, why not bring back slavery, or take away womens rights, after all if it's simply about the majority. Seriously though, give it some thought, why this constant desire to force your beliefs on another. Believe what you will, just do others the courtesy of giving them.

With respect Robert, who exactly are you to judge what is righteous or in the light of the Lord. Pride, is this not a deadly sin?

Again with respect, this time to Yogiandbooboo, your interpretation is incorrect, I do not wish others to think as I do, I merely wish understand why some feel the need to condemn others. I am not condemning anyone, I am trying to understand them. And please, do accuse me of hating someone simply for asking. As for what I mean by hateful, it is one thing to have belief, it is quite another use that belief as a weapon. You need only look at how people address others who are different right here on YA!. You don't need to go far.

JohnFromNC, what exactly is being shoved down your throat? Do you mean that because some tv shows have gays on them? or is it that some gay people want justice under the law? How exactly is that shoving it down your throat. Further, what about, say, Fundamentalists shoving their beliefs down people throat? Do you honestly believe that when Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell condemns gays on TV, Radio and the internet, that some of their followers not only agree but act on it? Now even you cannot be so blind, at least I would hope not.

Once again, missing the point. Robert, I am not being prideful when I ask this question, nor am I prideful when I ask who are you to judge. Perhaps it is best to accept the fact that you simply will not answer question. Fair enough.

Not to be too simplistic, but I think it's because... "you know you have the right god when he hates all the same people you do."

They look for a religion that fits their hate and fundamentalism is for the win, every time.

I hear ya, JD.

If everyone in every different denomination, sect or philosophy felt that they were "right" and that everyone else was just "wrong," why couldn't they just be content in their "rightness?" Where is the need to attack, insult and just be generally aggressive?

But, ya gotta remember where you are; Yahoo Answers. This place is a virtual cesspool for cyber-terrorists; people who find joy in casting slurs and insults from the shadows, behind their computers, saying things they would never have the nads to say face-to-face.

Who claims these fundamentalists are doing what you say? Most of the problems come from everyday folk who just don't want it shoved down their throats. You can't go 10 minutes without it being thrown into your face. Who's to say it's hate if you don't agree with something just because they think you should? Most of the beatings and killings are not coming from the people you are accusing.

You do realize in your thoughts that you are trying to force others what you believe as well. You do not think that others should push their beliefs on others. Why not leave it that. But you have taken it a step further to try to get others to do the same.

I'm not saying what a religion does or does not do is right. I am saying that what a person thinks is going to effect their input on things. Whether you believe in God or Allah or nothing, that will effect what you think and what you try to impress upon others and in society as a whole.

And that is different than being hateful. You never addressed why you think being religious is hateful. Do you hate those who have views different than you?

You can't criminalize, exile, or eliminate the people and ideas that disagree with you if you're tolerant. The fundamentally retarded christians want absolute power.

Anti-theism is when someone is against religion. Anti-theism, however, is not limited to communist states or atheists; rather, any and all religions that seek to ban or eliminate other religions are anti-theistic, and that includes fundamentally retarded christianity. Pat Robertson is as hateful of those who disagree with him as Osama bin Laden and Kim Jong Il.

> I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over
> you... I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you.
> Yes, hate is good... Our goal is a christian nation. We
> have a biblical duty, we are called by god, to conquer
> this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want
> pluralism.

Why is being righteouss in the eyes of God seen as hateful to the unrighteouss....its an ageold truth the darkness does not like the light. Hatelful should never be a characteristic of a christian, but lets not forget that people who choose to rebel agaisnt god will see righteousness as a threst and deem it hateful...

Edit, in response to your second comment,

Thats a great question and it brings to light a important topic. Understand the difference in what is judging and what is already judged. UNderstand that God has already laid out what is righteouss and unrighteouss and the scriptures can be used to test that concept. You are correct in calling pride sinful...if I were to label something using my own intuition and not relying on what God has already judged that would be prideful....but to reiterate a judgement that God has already made is obedient not prideful. You would do well to look in the proverbial mirror and see the pride oozing from your coments before accusing another friend.

Edit

Either you missed the point as well or you did not read. I NEVER judged anything...i reiterated what was already judged....when I refer to what is or is not righteous im reffering to what God has already stated is and is not. Thats not judging...i hope that makes better sense for you. as far as me not answering your question I believed I have if you disagree please let me know and I will try to further elaborate. The basis is christianity in its pure form cannot be hateful, its impossible. But remember that doing something in the name of Christ does not mean Christ is in it.
